Wishes & More remembers McKenna

Although McKenna’s time on earth was short-lived and could be counted in months and not years, Wishes & More was honored to help her family create memories that included their beautiful baby girl.

McKenna suffered from Alpers, a disease that deteriorates the brain and causes unrelenting seizures and blindness.  Less than six months before her mother contacted us, the same disease took McKenna’s brother, Drew.

Drew’s diagnosis was identified just days before he passed away, and knowing that McKenna’s fate was inevitable, the family wanted to enjoy every minute with their daughter prior to the onset of symptoms.  They planned a trip to Disneyland in February, 2006.  Soon after plans were made, McKenna was approved for a wish, so Wishes & More  enhanced the trip by purchasing the family a digital camera, ink, a photo printer and other accessories, and gave the family spending money.  In Wishes & More  style, they were picked up from their home in a limousine and whisked away to begin their sunny vacation.

The vacation was wonderful until the morning they were to return home.   McKenna began to seizure on the last day of their vacation, February 14.  She passed away on July 5, 2006 in the comfort of her parent’s arms.  Our hearts and our thoughts go out to her parents and surviving brother.
