Wishes & More grants Sarah's wish!

When Sarah was approved for a wish from Wishes & More, she knew she wanted to use the opportunity in a unique way.  She is an inspiring and strong young woman with an amazing outlook on life.  Through all her trials resulting from her illness, one special group really encouraged her.  Sarah wanted to show her gratitude to them by using her wish, not to take a vacation or buy something for herself, but to benefit them - the Park and Woodbury Nordic Ski teams.

Sarah is a 17-years-old who lives with hydrocephalus, a condition where the spinal fluid becomes trapped in the brain and causes intense amounts of pressure.  She also has suffered a stroke and cervical dystonia.  Before her stroke, she was active in traveling soccer.  After having to give up soccer, Sarah was able to use skiing as an outlet when she started with the team in the 2004 season.

Sarah and Wishes & More surprised the Nordic ski teams with her wish on a Friday after practice.  Waiting for the team were pizzas and gift bags filled with ski accessories.  Their big gift was two VASA trainers, which the athletes use to strengthen their upper bodies.  Even though Sarah wanted her wish to benefit others, Wishes & More snuck in something special for her - new skis, boots, poles, and a gift certificate to Joe’s sporting goods to purchase other equipment!  After hearing from her doctors that she would never cross country ski again, Sarah says her biggest wish had been granted when she was able to get out onto the trails.

Wishes & More is very lucky to not only have granted Sarah’s wish, but to have her as an active volunteer with our organization!
