It's not everyday that
dreams come true, but a new organization in Minnesota is trying its best to change that.
Zachary Rains, a
13-year-old boy from Minnesota,
was chosen by Wishes & More to have his wish granted. Zachary has a rare
connective tissue disorder and a form of hemophilia, and was offered the chance
to experience his wish by Wishes & More, a Minnesota-based organization
that grants wishes for seriously ill children.
What Zachary wanted
more than anything else was to meet comic strip character Garfield. Last week, Zachary
and his mother, Holly Arnold-Rains, flew to Indiana
in order to visit Garfield creator Jim Davis in Muncie.
Zachary spent the day
with Davis and received several Garfield souvenirs to
remember the experience.
After his visit with Davis, Zachary was
supposed to go back to his hotel room to spend the night with nothing to
do. But local resident Bill Thomas
wouldn’t have that.
Thomas works for Jim
Taylor Transportation Company and personally chauffeured Zachary during his
stay in Indiana. When he heard that Zachary didn’t have
anything planned for the evening, he decided to take matters into his own hands
and threw Zachary a fishing party.
But Zachary’s trip was
still no over. On Thursday, April 21,
Zachary got to spend the day at the Indianapolis 500 Speedway.
Zachary is now back at
home in Minnesota
but will probably always remember the time his dream came true, just as people
who met Zachary will never forget him.
