Tragically, five months after Abbi died, her little sister, Sarah, showed similar symptoms. (Read Abbi’s story here.)
On May 4, 2010, after six months of anxious testing, it was determined that Sarah was fighting the same battle as her big sister. This time the family had better insight into what was to come and decided not to prolong the inevitable by using invasive measures. Instead, they brought her home, not knowing if they had six days, six weeks, or six months, but determined to take advantage of every second they had left with their youngest daughter.
On May 14, Wishes & More received Sarah’s wish application. We were absolutely devastated. How could this happen twice to this beloved family, especially within such a short amount of time?
Before we even had a chance to interview Sarah, she died on May 16th, 15 days after this picture was taken.
This newsletter was in its final stages of editing and we thought long and hard about including this painful story…this harsh reality. After much contemplation, and with the input of the parents of these beautiful little girls, we decided to include their stories in order to show you how we truly do enhance the lives of the children and families we serve. Mom thought it would be “amazing” to have the stories of their precious girls featured and shared with you. Abbi's wish was thoroughly enjoyed by Abbi and her family and they intend to create a butterfly garden in Sarah’s memory with the funds from the $2000 Memorial we provided. We don't do this alone, we do it with the help of our supporters and we hope you see that our work is meaningful and joyful.
