Duke's wish was to go on a shopping spree as soon as he was strong enough to walk on his own.
Wish
Duke is a 17-year-old from Edina with a brain infection called Cavernous Hemangioma. He is a typical Minnesotan who likes to be outside, play hockey with friends and watch sports on TV. Duke’s condition kept him cooped up in the hospital for over nine months; it then took another year until he was able to walk again. Duke’s wish was to hang out at the Mall of America and shop for school clothes for his return to a normal life. On his birthday in July, Duke and his friends were picked up in a limo and treated like royalty for a day. He was able to purchase plenty of school clothes and presents for his entourage. They were also treated to lunch at Crave so they could continue on with their shopping adventures. After dreaming about this day for almost two years, Duke finally had his wish come true.
